Welcome back to Questions for the Coach! 🥅

In this episode, former collegiate goaltending coach John Carratu discusses how to handle giving up a bad goal and shares actionable strategies to quickly reset your mind and body. Inspired by Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen's long-distance goal allowed in the Buffalo vs. Boston game, Coach Carratu breaks down the steps every goaltender needs to bounce back instantly.

**Key Takeaways:**

  * **Own the Mistake:** Accept responsibility without making excuses so your teammates can trust you.
  * **Positive Body Language:** Keep your head up and avoid slamming your stick or showing discouragement.
  * **Reset & Refocus:** Use structured breathwork (like the box or 4-4-4 method), repeat positive mantras, or use physical triggers to snap back into the game.
  * **Don't Dwell:** Adopt a "next shot" mentality rather than letting negative energy snowball.
  * **Win the Next Moment:** Focus on individual, immediate tasks like stopping the next dump-in or executing a clean puck exchange.

Every goaltender is going to give up a few tough ones a season. What separates the great ones is how quickly they can overcome it!
